no they don’t they show the effects of the normalization of pedophilia in our society
and the way that capitalism has forced women to view their appearance as a commodity from puberty
Poor kid. I don’t know who’s advising her but they’re bad at their job.
Anyway, here’s what teen actresses looked like in the mid-90s for more on this so-called ‘cultural shift’:
You know what though? Let’s not shame Millie for it. Pick a random 13 years old girl today and she’ll look the same. My cousin showed up in london last month and between makeup, hair, ourfit and nails she looked at least 20 and I literally forgot at some point and accidentally offered her wine until I remembered she still likes hello kitty. All of her friends look the same too.
It’s not just actresses. There was a cultural shift. And God it must be stressful to be a preteen in the era of IG and snapchat and fb.
1994so y’all are gonna pretend that the 90s/ 200s were a GREAT place to be a teenage girl and these atrocities didn’t happen:
Britney Spears on the cover of Rolling Stone, 1999, age 16 (literally all of Britney Spears’s early career)
Dominique Swain, promotional image for Lolita, age 15, 1997
Natalie Portman, age 12, in Leon: The Professional, 1994
This shit isn’t new. Stop acting like it’s new and the past is somehow less shitty than things are now.
Let’s go past the 90s y'all.The 70s were awesome:
12 year old Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver
12 year old Brooke Shields in a promo shot for “Pretty Baby” And worst of all for Brooke Shields:
Yeah, I mean, unlike much of tumblr, I was alive in the 70s, and NONE of this is new. Please know that both Jodie Foster and Brooke Shields were playing prostitutes in Taxi Driver and Pretty Baby. And let’s not forget Brooke Shields in Endless Love and Blue Lagoon. There are so many movies from the 70s and the 80s which where about teens getting it on, with adults and other teens (Sooner or Later, Pretty Darlings, Porky’s, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, just off the top of my head). And the books, OH MY GOD, so many books about sex and losing your virginity. YA today is way more tame than it used to be (look up Norma Klein’s YA stuff, for example).
Let’s not pretend this is anything new. I mean, the whole Roman Polanski scandal didn’t happen yesterday. And it wasn’t new in the 70s either. Men have been exploiting young girls forever.
protect girls. protect girls. protect girls.
It’s so weird how when I’m watching old movies with people much older than me and something extremely misogynistic or pedophilic thing happens, they’ll say something like “it was a different time. That wouldn’t be allowed now” but when we see pedophilic imagery or oversexualition of women now, we’re told it’s a problem with “kids these days” or something along those lines.
It’s always presented like a specific decade or generation’s issue when in reality men have been creeps towards girls and young women since we’ve been walking upright 😓
It’s about power. They claim it’s “empowering” for young girls to dress like this, they tell teens that they’re interested because she’s “mature for her age,” but really it’s about the fact that preteen/teenage girls have less power than adult fucking men and they’re grooming them to be taken advantage of.
